Posted August 10th, 2014 @ 8:30am

Here are the details: Tony Stewart struck and killed sprint car driver Kevin Ward, Jr. during a race in upstate New York Saturday night. Ward spun out and got out of his vehicle, appearing to try to confront Stewart, who ran him over.

Ward was 20 years old. Stewart was questioned and released by local police, and remains under investigation. According to the AP, Stewart was a regular on the dirt-track circuit, and had previously been involved in a major accident at the same track: Stewart was involved in a July 2013 accident at Canandaigua that seriously injured a 19-year-old driver. He later took responsibility for his car making contact with another and triggering the 15-car accident that left Alysha Ruggles with a compression fracture in her back.
