Joe Montana And His Wife Thwart Attempted Kidnapping Of Their Grandchild

NFL: JAN 11 NFC Divisional Playoff - Vikings at 49ers

NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana and his wife had to fight off a woman who tried to kidnap their grandchild. The woman, identified as Sodsai Dalzell, brazenly walked into Montana's home in Malibu, California, and removed the nine-month-old from a playpen.

Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted the woman and attempted to "de-escalate the situation."

"A tussle ensued, and Mrs. Montana was able to safely pry the child out of the suspect's arms," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Nobody was hurt during the confrontation.

After Jennifer managed to grab the baby, Dalzell fled to a nearby home where she was taken into custody. She is facing charges of kidnapping and burglary. Officials did not say why Dalzell tried to kidnap Montana's grandchild.

Montana tweeted that his family was doing well following the scary situation.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out. Scary situation, but thankful that everybody is doing well. We appreciate respect for our privacy at this time," Montana wrote on Twitter.

Montana played 15 seasons in the NFL, retiring after the 1994 season. He spent 13 of his 15 seasons playing for the San Francisco 49ers, winning four Super Bowls as the starting quarterback.
