The Oklahoma Sooners women's softball team remains in contention for their fifth consecutive Women's College World Series title after defeating the Oregon Ducks 4-1 on Sunday (June 1) at Devon Park. The victory was crucial for the Sooners, who had fallen to the loser's bracket after a 4-2 loss to Texas on Saturday (May 31).
Cydney Sanders was the star of the game, hitting two home runs that helped secure the win for Oklahoma. Sam Landry played a pivotal role as well, coming in as a relief pitcher in the third inning and striking out six batters over 4 ⅓ innings. Landry managed to escape a tense situation in the sixth inning, striking out Dezianna Patmon, who was responsible for Oregon's only run, to end the Ducks' threat.
With this win, the Sooners will face Texas Tech in the semifinals on Monday (June 2) at 6 p.m. CT. They will need to defeat the Red Raiders twice to advance to the championship round. If necessary, a second game will be played later that night.
The Sooners started the World Series with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Tennessee, thanks to Ella Parker's three-run, walk-off home run.
