Oklahoma City Thunder star Chet Holmgren has agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension, potentially worth $250 million, as confirmed by his agent Bill Duffy of WME Basketball. The deal comes after Holmgren played a pivotal role in leading the Thunder to victory in the 2025 NBA Finals.

Holmgren, who is 23 years old, overcame a hip injury this season to help the Thunder secure the championship. He returned in February and finished the season with impressive averages of 15 points, eight rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game, shooting 49% from the field and 37.9% from three-point range. His performance was crucial in the Thunder's playoff run, where he played all 23 games and achieved a plus-169 plus-minus, the best of any player in the 2025 postseason.

The Thunder, the second-youngest team to win an NBA championship, have also extended contracts for other key players. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning NBA MVP and Finals MVP, recently signed a four-year, $285 million extension. The team is also working on a rookie extension for Jalen Williams, another vital member of their core.

Holmgren, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, missed his entire rookie season due to a foot injury. However, he quickly demonstrated his potential in the following seasons, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2024. His versatility and defensive prowess make him a cornerstone of the Thunder's future.

According to ESPN, Holmgren's contract is guaranteed for $239 million, with escalators that could increase its value to $250 million. The Thunder's young core, including Holmgren, Gilgeous-Alexander, and Williams, positions the team as a formidable contender for years to come.
