Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is scheduled for an MRI to assess the severity of a hip injury he sustained during the team's season opener against the New England Patriots on Wednesday (September 9). Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that Darnold did not suffer any fractures, but the initial tests conducted during the game were inconclusive.

The injury occurred early in the game, on the Seahawks' fifth play from scrimmage. Despite the setback, backup quarterback Drew Lock stepped in and successfully led a second-half rally, securing a victory for Seattle. Darnold, who is 29 years old, will undergo further evaluation to determine the full extent of his injury.

In a related context, Darnold has previously dealt with injuries, including an oblique issue earlier this year. He has been a key player for the Seahawks, throwing for over 4,000 yards last season. Coach Macdonald expressed confidence in Darnold's ability to recover, stating, "We’re going to work through it, see how the day goes, and then we’ll kind of take it day by day."

The Seahawks are hopeful that Darnold will be ready for their upcoming games, but his availability will depend on the MRI results. The team is preparing for the possibility of Lock starting in the interim if necessary.
