In a recently-released excerpt from Seth Wickersham's upcoming book "American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback," it's revealed that Caleb Williams was so concerned about being drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2024 that he and his family weighed bypassing the NFL draft altogether. Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington react, debating whether Williams and his family were justified in their concerns.
Kelvin Washington: "Caleb and his father, if you know anything about them, they've been at this since he was a literal kid. They've mapped this entire thing out... from transferring to USC, to the NIL deals he accepts, it's all meticulously planned out... With that understanding, I can see why this is frustrating. If we've been orchestrating this since pee-wee football, and now things are already predestined, I can see why that's frustrating. This is the only profession where literally being the best at what you do gets you no say in your destiny... If you're coming out of med school and you're projected to be the best doctor, you have the pick of the litter. That's the case with pretty much any profession, but this is the one instance where you're the best of the best, [and you get no say in where you end up]."
